VMC (Vertical Machining Centers)
A vertical machining center (VMC) is a

machining center with its spindle in a

vertical orientation. High-end VMCs are

high-precision machines often used for

tight-tolerance milling, such as fine die

and mold work. Low-cost vertical machining

centers are among the most basic CNC machine

tools. vertical machining centers are

designed to provide stiffness and rigidity

for chatter-free cutting, agility for high-

speed/hard-milling and accuracies for

tight-tolerance blends and matches typical

of complex, 3-D contoured geometry

associated with die/mold and medical

production. VMC delivers precision, accuracy

and excellent stability for the machining of

complex materials, including ceramics,

intricate cores and cavities.

CNC Machine Operator Program is the real

deal – students can develop and practice the

skills required to effectively operate a CNC

machine.They learn by doing. CNC machine

operators must have a wide array of skills

to be effective in their jobs.

RSDC’s CNC Machine Operator Program teaches

operators hands-on skills in the following

areas:

Performing part measurement and gauging
Interfacing with a CNC
Making tooling decisions
Responding to machine malfunctions
Setting-up and operating a CNC machine

CNC Set-Up/Operator Certificate is designed

for individuals who have limited or no

manufactuirng background in the setup and

operation of CNC equipment. This certificate

covers how to perform:

Operation of machine tools
Computer operations
Entry-level CNC programming
CNC setup
CNC operation
Industrial trades math
Blueprint reading
Use of precision measuring equipment

Certification
A certificate will be issued to students who

successfully complete the three levels of

Operations and/or the three levels of

Programming within each certificate. Our

leading-edge equipment provides an excellent

opportunity to get hands-on training as an

operator and programmer.

There are two streams based on the machines

(Machining Centre and Turning Centre)

available for the CNC Certificate:

CNC Turning Centre Operator Certificate I
CNC Turning Centre Programming Certificate

You may choose to earn all four

certificates.

Program Model / Completion Requirements
In your chosen machine type, it is suggested

that you register for all three core courses

at the same time. Students completing one

level will not be guaranteed placement at

the next level.

Students with previous experience who wish

to enter a higher-level CNC course, without

completing previous levels, will be required

to demonstrate CNC skills and competencies

prior to registration. Contact program area

for the required forms. Students registering

in CNC courses are accepted on a “first come

- first served” basis.

prerequisite sequence.
